Christmas Eve Traditions
On Christmas Eve, we always go driving around to see Christmas lights. Like most of life, it doesn’t have to be crazy, but it helps. We just like to ride around and play Christmas music while hearing the kids yell, “CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!!” over and over again
After driving around, we come home and enjoy cocoa in special Christmas mugs.
We have had these mugs for most of our marriage. We had no idea we would need so many when we started, so we’ve added different styles for different people (Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, etc) whenever we had more people present than the previous Christmas.
It’s around that time that we try to have a Christmas Eve craft for the kids, depending on how crazy they are and how near we all are to a nervous break down. A few years ago we made these snowman magnets.
This year, we will be making snowflake photo frames.
We finish the evening by reading The Night Before Christmas (having read the story of Jesus’ birth the night before in preparation of the Christmas Eve church service). Then we do like every parent in America and try to convince our kids they can calmly fall asleep while anticipating magical gift delivery like it was any other night
